Let’s take a look...at ourselves!
Artists throughout the centuries have used self-portraits as a means of self-exploration, self-expression, and self-promotion. These artworks often serve as a visual autobiography, capturing the artist at a particular moment in time and revealing something about their personality, emotions, and creative process. Self-portraits can take on various styles and approaches, depending on your intention and artistic technique. In this new course, we will be focusing on the abstract, gestural, loose, intuitive and surrealist side of capturing our likenesses (or un-likenesses!) on canvas and on paper using a wide array of wet and dry media. Through the process of creating this type of intuitive self-portrait, or in the case of this course, several intuitive self-portraits, you may gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your higher-self, your emotions, and your creative place in the world. Together we will explore these concepts using various techniques and a wide variety of materials to capture our wonderful visages…or just our vibes. Anything can happen when you let yourself feel totally free in front of a blank canvas or page. How wonderful is that? Join me in the studio for this journey into the creative self. See you there!
There are no prerequisites for this class and no painting or drawing experience necessary.

1- Canson XL 18”x24” 140lb/30 sheet Watercolor Paper pad.2-Canson XL 9”x12” 140lb/30 sheet Watercolor Paper pad.3-10”x10” Canvases3-11”x14” Canvases1-16”x20” Canvas1 set of student grade acrylic paint1 set of student grade brushesCompressed charcoal1 set of oil pastels1 small black india ink and any other color inks that you are attracted toAn assortment of pens, pencils and any other drawing implements that you are attracted toAny art supplies you may have on hand that you want to work with1 sketchbook of any size1 writing journal1 mirror that can stand on its own (or be propped up) of any size-a tablet or phone can also serve as a mirror
I will also have a few supplies on hand at every class to throw into the mix!
