About this event
Communication is essential to wellbeing. Recent studies have shown that tweens and teens are under tremendous social pressure from peers, adults, and social media has made them anxious. This pressure can be detrimental to mental and physical health. This Communications camp addresses ways in which to communicate effectively, will help your son find their voice, and will help them feel empowered at school and home. Instructors will present key communication skills that are essential for young people to survive, flourish and develop. Communication skills help young people to socialize, meet new people, make new friends, maintain existing friendships, and develop positive relationships with others in their lives. Improved communication skills enable young people to speak, present and feel comfortable in front of others and share their thoughts and ideas in writing. Communication skills apply both online and offline and include young people’s ability to use technology safely and appropriately to navigate the world they live in. There will be a focus on five topics: Self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills, social awareness, and self-awareness. These interactive sessions that bring boys and male-identifying youth together in a safe space to have real conversations, play cooperative games, and learn more about themselves and find effective ways to communicate. (Note: If your child is also registering for "Leadership Academy" in the PM, they will be eligible to stay at OCYL for a BYO (nut free) lunch period at no additional cost.)
