| Climate Healers is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, registered in California, with the goal of regenerating Life on a massive scale in a grassroots effort. We work with the ~2 billion people throughout the world who don’t have electricity and who burn 1.5 billion tons of wood each year for cooking alone, which is equivalent to the amount of wood that would be regenerated each year over a billion acres of land through passive reforestation. Climate Healers provides a solar stove and two LED lights with rechargeable batteries free of charge to each household in a village. Then, we meter the use of the stove and pay the female head of household 4 cents per hour for using the stove.
Climate Healers is participating in the Sevathon mainly to raise awareness among Bay area residents of the front line status of rural Indians in the climate change issue. As the monsoons become erratic and the forests disappear, poor rural Indians are bearing the brunt of the extreme weather events such as floods and droughts. The government run programs through NREGA are helping with the poverty, but those programs are usually about "developing" rural India and not about regenerating her natural wealth. Climate Healers is trying to bridge this gap, but we are still in the pilot stage and would appreciate technical as well as financial help from the Bay area community. |
