| My good friend Chandra Wilson’s daughter, Sarina McFarlane, was officially diagnosed with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (CVS) as a result of an underlying Mitochondrial Dysfunction. This was after almost a year of monthly visits to the hospital suffering from nausea and vomiting. Basically, her cell energy supply is compromised and acts out with CVS when her body doesn’t have enough energy to do its work. Her diagnosis was made by Dr. Richard Boles of the Medical Genetics department at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He is one of the few geneticists in this very small field, but is doing ground breaking research and treatment of the myriad of illnesses caused by mitochondrial dysfunction. He and his patients formed CureMito to support this research and treatment. Sarina is now successfully managing her illness, when many others haven’t gotten to this point and are so much worse.
Because of this, I am walking for CureMito on this major inaugural fundraising effort that is the February 19, 2012 Rock and Roll Pasadena ½ Marathon benefiting CureMito.
Please support me in raising my $500 goal to run by clicking the Make a Contribution box or sending in a check to:
California Community Foundation, 221 South Figueroa, Suite 400, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Please put CureMito #FS022 on the Memo Line.
Find out more about mitochondrial dysfunction at http:/www.curemito.org. Here's hoping that with our efforts and this ongoing research, other families and sufferers will get their diagnosis sooner and get to answers faster! |
