11/2/2009 - Today would have been Greg's 41st birthday and we are currently at 88% of your goal. How great would it be to hit 100% today? Consider even a $5 donation..that's less than most people spend on lunch!
My brother, Greg, was diagnosed with Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis when he was only 30. Since it was Ideopathic, we have no idea how he came to have this horrible disease. Greg was not a smoker, infact, he was very active.
He received a single lung transplant on April 14, 2005. He passed away on June 5, 2006 at the age of 37. He lived longer than most IPF patients do. I am wanting to honor him by creating a memorial fund in his name.
To do this, I need your help! To reach this goal, I have competed in the following Austin-based races in 2007-2008:
1) October 21, 2007 - IBM 10K-Finished!
2) November 11, 2007 - EAS 10-miler - Finsihed!
3)December 2, 2007 - ARC 20K-finished!
4)February 17, 2008 - The Austin Half-Marathon - finshed!
My next goals are to finish a marathon, half-ironman and a full ironman, hopefully before the end of 2011! I finished the San Antonio Marathon in November 2008 and I have listed the ironman races I hope to complete someday!
4)November 16, 2008 - The San Antonio Marathon - Finished!
5)Half-Ironman - New Orleans, Spring 2011
6)June 2012 (or 2013) - Ford Ironman Coeur d'Alene, Idaho
It is my hope and dream one day to build enough awareness about Pulmonary Fibrosis so more dollars go towards research to help those who truly know that every breath is a gift.
All I ask of you is to give $10 and then ask your friends and family to do the same. I know that if everyone I know gives just $10, that's easily a few thousand dollars! The money goes to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and will go into the Gregory J. Blake Memorial Fund.
