Our Mission:
Our current mission begins in Arusha, Tanzania where Sun Strides is improving the quality of education for 170 children attending school in the city. The project has two main objectives...
1) Install Solar Panels on Shepherds Junior Academy (est. cost = $30,000): Shepherds Junior was established to provide quality education to children at a very low cost (most families in the area survive off of $2 USD per day). The school's headmaster also sponsors local students who cannot afford the cost of education. Currently the school does not have any power. Providing the school with sustainable energy will allow the students hot meals during the day and also power computers so the students can compete for higher education. In the future, having sustainable energy will allow Shepherds Junior to keep operating costs low and provide more students with an affordable quality education.
2) Build a Volunteer Center (est. cost = $35,000): Build a Volunteer Center (est. cost = $35,000). The first trip to Arusha is just the beginning. Arusha is an area full of culture and a strong sense of community. Our volunteers will have the opportunity to learn so much from the experience of volunteering in this area of the world. We plan to purchase land and construct a camp to provide a common place for volunteers to stay and get involved with the local community. In doing so, we will have a lasting impact, involving hundreds of members on The Arusha Project.
Global: Join us on our mission! Sign up as a volunteer candidate and meet the students yourself. Teach English, help with child care in the orphanage, or provide your expertise with installing solar panels. If you cannot afford the trip on your own we will set you up with a fundraising page to raise funds to cover your costs.
Local: You don't have to make it to Arusha to make a difference. Volunteer locally as a community outreach leader. Set up events, inspire local community members and businesses to get involved, and spread the word on this amazing effort.
