Sun Strides Energy Camp
Our first Energy Camp is up and running in Arusha, Tanzania! The "A-Town" hostel provides a safe, home-stay atmosphere while volunteers or guests immerse themselves in the local community, connect with other NGO's in the area, or participate in any other number of activities.
Tumaini for Africa Children's Village -
"Biogas tank," Fall/Winter 2009
We are currently raising funds to install a biogas tank for "Tumaini for Africa Children's Village." Tumaini, which means "hope" in Swahili, provides a safe, family-style environment for orphaned children. The biogas tank will allow the village to convert bio-waste into clean and usable energy for cooking.
About the Village:
"By providing orphaned and vulnerable children with stability and support throughout childhood we enable them to lead fulfilled lives improving the Tanzanian social environment; now and in the future.
Our goal is to build the infrastructure of a home and education center for orphan children and to educate local people to self manage the initiative for themselves. The premise of the center is based on the infrastructure of Tanzanian communities and villages, in which children learn, develop and have pride in their African culture and heritage."

The biogas generator is fairly simple; it works by filtering and containing methane, a source of energy which is easily harnessed for cooking. As a bonus, the system will enhance the Village's sanitary disposal of bio-waste, as this is what produces the methane. The entire set-up is completely contained, and sustainable. |
