Feb.6, 2011!

There is no ‘cost’ to register for the program. BUT, Team Lighthouse participants are asked to commit to raising a minimum of $1300 for Lighthouse for the Blind & Visually Impaired.

About Lighthouse for the Blind & Visually Impaired

Look closely. Someone you know is blind. And the LightHouse can help.

Each year, the LightHouse touches the lives of thousands of people–people who have been blind their whole lives or people who are new to blindness because of eye disease or trauma.

People who don’t like to talk about being blind and people who are comfortable with their disability; people who lead companies and work alongside sighted peers and people who need more training and skills to land that great job; kids who are as young as three and seniors as old as 99.

Blindness crosses all communities, ages and socio-economic levels. The LightHouse is a place where blindness is the norm, not the exception. We provide a range of programs and services that teach people alternative strategies for working, playing and staying active in their communities: Braille, safe mobility, social connections, mentoring and job skills training are just a few LightHouse features.

The benefit of our work is evident in Darien’s story: “I [have been] a participant in LightHouse activities and events for over a dozen years now. From a professional standpoint, the LightHouse Youth Program has helped to develop my skills in teaching and relating to others and [has] given me a better understanding of what it is to be a more positive contributor to my community. It has helped to give me a better idea of what direction I would like to go with my life moving forward."
