We're Gonna Run Like GIRLS!!!!!

Thoughtfully, I get a lot of questions from many of you about my training and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraising progress I'm making. So...I figured this is a good time for an update.

Well, we're on our way folks! With all of your continued support and constant encouragement I've made it to the final countdown to the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon that is taking place on June 23rd!

I'm excited to say that my personal (initial) fundraising goal has been met - but I'm still plugging away and reaching for the next step of $3500 in donations. Every penny helps a patient and his/her family through the process of being diagnosed and treated for a blood-related cancer. THANK YOU to everyone that has donated or has taken a part in fundraising activities with us. You can check out the fundraising progress at http://www.active.com/donate/tntepa/tntepaJOakley

As for physical preparation, I'm getting the hang of multi-sport training. Some days, I can't figure out why I've gotten on my bike in my bathing suit...but then I remember...get to the pool!!!! Right now we're working on 'transition' training - which is the process of going from swimming or running to hopping on a bike and asking your (already tired) muscles to perform a totally different function. Which leads me to admit that I'm dealing with a slight muscle strain in my right calf - but nothing a little ibuprofin and a bag of frozen peas can't fix!

My patient hero, Corrie, is also doing very well. Her treatments are going well and she's feeling great too! In a strange twist of fate she is currently being treated for an infected femur - yup, you heard that right - somehow, she and Jeff share that extremely unsual diagnosis. And, even more oddly...she's being treated by the same team of Pediatric Infectious Disease doctors that oversaw Julia in the PICU when she had botulism as an infant. So call it fate, divine intervention, or whatever...but for me, it's proof that I was meant to do this. We were brought together by separate reasons, only to find out that we share so much.

As always, I am eternally grateful for the continued support of everyone! Between family, friends and co-workers I am asked at least once a day how the training is coming along. Without the support of everyone behind me, it would be so much easier to skip out on a day of training. Thanks again, and I look foward to a sending all of you a post-race update!
