I am training to participate in the "Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon in San Diego this June as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this marathon in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Please join me in finding a cure. Almost everyone knows someone who has lost their battle to some form of cancer. I, myself, have lost 2 grandparents to cancer. However, my great-grandmother, Rosie Spears, was a 25 year Leukemia survivor. I decided that if she could live almost a quarter of her life battling the disease, I could run a half marathon (13.1 miles) to help find a cure.
Please take the time to donate as much as you can. Small donations mean as much as larger ones - any donation helps me to cross the finish line on June 4th, and one step closer to finding a cure!
My goal is $3600 before race day on June 4th. However, not only am I going to push myself in training, but I am also going to ask you to help push above and beyond my fundraising goal. If you would like to donate one dollar per mile, that is only $13.10! Or if you would like to donate two dollars per mile, that is only 26.20!
I will leave you with this note: One of my team honorees said before speaking to us, "It is very hard to speak to the people who are saving your life." I may be running a marathon, but you are the true heros, and the ones saving lives. I don't mind the 5 day per week trainings, and the sore muscles. Each of you are the ones creating miracles with each dollar you donate. Again, please, lets help find a cure.
I hope you'll visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
Also, be sure to check out my running journal @ http://neenasrunningjournal.blogspot.com You can see how my training is going, as well as leave me a message on my message board. RUNNING IN HONOR OF...

5/2/2006 Hello everyone! I just wanted to send a quick update letting everyone know how my bake sale went. We raised $350 yesterday selling baked goods downtown at the Quest Building. Thanks so much to Anna who helped me set everything up, and also to Stephanie M., who came out and helped me sell yesterday. Also, thank you to everyone who donated items for the bake sale: Lois G., Cayla B., Monique W., Stephanie M., Anna & Donica, Carolyn M., Theresa D. - you guys rock!
Now that my bake sale is over with, I am moving on to my yard sale, which will be on the weekend of the 13th and 14th. Hopefully we can raise lots more money that day... as I am still pretty far from my goal. Hopefully, I will still receive more donations as well through the mail and online from individual donors!
Only 5 more weeks until San Diego. My training is going great. I ran my first race this past weekend (the Get in Gear 10K) and averaged an 11 minute mile, which is great for me. A few more long run weekends.... and the race will be here. : Katie Barret, Trent Bertram, "anonymous", Letha Brannan, Angel Chesnut, Adam Clark, Viola & Sherry DeBen, Education & Training Resources, Shane Fields, Phil Gardner, Richard & Lois Gehrman, Anna Getchell, Luther Groce, Sandy Guimond, Norma Houck, Kate Hudak, Paul & Julie Johnson, Lori Kinstad, Elden & Bella Mason, Stephanie McCarty, Jason & Sabrina Mishler, Jennifer & Gary Nash, Marci Olson, Stephen Owens, Jackie Pratt, Kelly Preston, Bob Privett, Dan & Karen Renner, Sue & Felix Sacheck, Martha Shepherd, Richard & Jan Talbot, Tom Vancura, Mike Wilcox, Richard Wilcox, Wendy & Gerald Willis, All of My Poker Tournament Participants, All of my bake sale "helpers"
