Susan Butcher
Dec 26, 1954 - Aug 5, 2006

Susan and I were married 21 years. During that time, she ran thousands of miles across the arctic. It wasn't easy, but she bowed her head, focused on the goal and made it one step at a time. Many times she failed, but it didn't stop her from starting over, without losing heart, and trying again. Her most difficult race was not the Iditarod, it was leukemia. She approached that race the same way, moving forward without becoming discouraged. Though she didn't win this race, the dignity, strength and courage she showed inspired people around the world. It is up to us to continue her quest of finding cures for all blood cancers.

In Susan's honor, I am running The San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon as part of a program called Team In Training. TNT raises money through individual racing efforts to aid The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's mission of defeating these awful diseases. It is LLS's most successful fundraising program having generated over 850 million dollars to date.

Running the Iditarod or a completing a marathon is not easy. But it can be done by bowing our heads and going forward one step at a time. We can also defeat Leukemia one step at a time.

Please join me in funding research to cure leukemia and all other blood cancers.

Pledge now to my effort, or go that extra mile by joining Team In Training to run for the cure.

See you on the trail!
