Kids Craft Ideas: Egg Carton Animals

Written by
Don't throw out your egg cartons after breakfast! Instead, partner with your child to spark imagination and create a cute animal friend. This project is quick, simple and great for children ages 4 to 6. For this example, we'll be making a ladybug, but let your kids get creative in deciding what creature (real or fictitious) they want to create.

You will need:

-An empty egg carton
-Paint for your chosen animal (i.e., red and black for a ladybug, shades of green for a turtle)
-A paintbrush
-Q-tips
-Googly eyes
-Pipe cleaners
-Scissors
-Glue
Step 1

Cut around the base of one eggcup and flip it upside down. This is your animal's body.
Step 2

Pour each paint color into a separate egg cup. Carefully paint the egg cup red, and let it dry.
Step 3

Dip a Q-tip or a small paintbrush in black paint and lightly dab the egg cup to create spots. If you wish, you can also paint the ladybug's face black.
Step 4

Take out your googly eyes and glue two eyes on the ladybug.
Step 5

With the help of an adult, cut your pipe cleaners into eight segments, about two inches long each. Carefully poke six pipe cleaners through the egg cup near the bottom to create six ladybug legs. Poke the other two through the head to create antennas.

Enjoy your new friend! You can make animal friends of all types to play together. Pictured on this slide are a ladybug and frog. Happy crafting!
