Kids Craft Ideas: Macaroni Necklaces

Written by
A simple craft that's been around for decades, macaroni necklaces make the perfect project for children to learn about colors, hand-eye coordination and gift giving. This project is suitable for children ages 4 and older.
Supplies

You will need:

-Macaroni (bigger for younger children)
-String or ribbon
-Paint
-Paint brushes
Step 1
1 of 7
Measure your string or ribbon to the appropriate length for your child. You can talk about using rulers and how measuring works. Make sure the string or ribbon is long enough so your child will be able to slip the necklace on and off.
Step 2
1 of 7
Paint your macaroni with chosen colors. You can quiz your child on each color and talk about where colors are found in nature (i.e., orange matches fall leaves).
Step 3

String each macaroni piece on to your necklace, taking extra care to hold each side so the pieces do not slide off the end. This exercise in hand-eye coordination requires your child to watch carefully to make sure the string makes it through the macaroni.
Step 4
1 of 7
Tie the necklace carefully around your child's neck.
Step 5

For extra fun, make a macaroni bracelet or some extra necklaces for friends.
