3. Bring Your Leash and Know Rules of the Trail
Always bring your leash, maybe two in case you lose one. Though you are more than confident that your dog will listen when you call, these animals are predatory by nature and can quickly run off the trail in search of something more interesting.

- Dog poop: Bag it, bury it off trail, and keep it away from any water sources.
4. Go the Distance
Monitor the duration of your hike. Along with possible overheating, your dog's pads should be checked for wear and tear. Fido may not be able to walk the next morning if you cover too much rugged terrain.
