Your campfire meals may be as simple as foil-roasted potatoes or as lavish as an entire menu made with modern pie irons, reflector oven and spits. No matter how delicious these classic dishes are you don't want to get stuck eating the same old thing every time you're cooking fireside.
Here are five camping recipes you may not have cooked over the fire yet, but will want to revisit time and time again.

Pine Forest Porridge
2/3 cup nonfat dry milk
1/2 cup dried apples
1/2 cup dried cranberries or raisins
1 teaspoon each sea salt, vanilla extract and cinnamon
1 cup steel cut oats
1 tablespoon sugar
5 1/2 cups water
For serving:
Milk or cream
Sugar or equivalent
Butter, chopped nuts (optional)
Serves 4 to 6
Dump the dry milk, fruit, seasonings, oats and sugar into a zip-top bag at home. At the campsite, grease a Dutch oven or other covered pan and boil your water. Stir in the dry ingredients, cover your pot and move it to a moderate part of the fire where the porridge can simmer gently. After 30 minutes, stir and check for done-ness.
