Carver Cave: Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, this cave became famous after Jonathan Carver discovered it on his journey to find a Northwest passage. The Sioux Indians were the first to inhabit the cave and considered it the "Dwelling of the Great Spirit."
Hang Son Doong: The world's largest cave passage, also known as "Mountain River Cave" is found in Vietnam. A British caving team measured it at 200 meters in height and 150 meters in width. Fun fact: cavers had to work around two underground rivers when exploring this cave for the first time.
Yucatan Peninsula Caves: In Mexico, caves are abundant and served as the primary water source for the Maya, who were once inhabitants of the region. In an area with very little rainfall, the Maya built their communities around the caves and relied on these underground rivers for water. Today, you can enjoy spelunking and cave diving.
Eisriesenwelt Ice Caves: Salzburg, Austria, is home to some of the largest caves in the world, stretching 40 kilometers. Ice caves are very different from normal caves, so if you're in Austria, bundle up and take your cave explorations to the next level.
