Introduction to Field Journaling in Nature Workshop

Weehawken Creative Arts • PO Box 734 RidgwayCO  81432 Organized by Weehawken Creative Arts

About this event

Description

Join fine artist Cedar Keshet for an introduction to field journaling in Watercolors & Pencil for your trips into nature. Learn some basic techniques that will help you record what you see, hear and feel on your next hike in the mountains, relaxing time at the park, or your backyard.

We will cover materials, setup, and techniques, followed by practical exercises in the serene environment of Riverbottom Park. We'll begin at the covered pavilion and then explore different areas of the park to find inspiring scenes for practice. Remember to bring along a camp chair, hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, and a water bottle plus anything else you would like to carry that will make you more comfortable throughout the session. Please refrain from bringing alcohol.

Please be prepared for all kinds of weather. Unless we experience heavy rain all morning, the class will proceed as scheduled. If the class needs to be canceled due to inclement weather, you will receive an email notification.

Please refer to the material list below to bring your own materials, order them online before the class, or purchase them at local Montrose stores:
  • Small watercolor field kit and a paintbrush (any watercolors will suffice, including children's sets; recommended: Sakura Koi pocket field sketch kit)
  • Watercolor paper spiral pad (small size, approximately 6” x 8” or similar)
  • Tiny water container (consider reusing containers like single-serving applesauce containers)
  • Small sponge (included in the Sakura kit)
  • HB or H artist pencil
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Several paper or cloth towels
  • Pigma Micron 03 black pen (optional)
  • Additional small watercolor brushes of your preference (optional)
  • Something to hold all your materials (e.g., a small plastic box that fits easily into a backpack)
