With most sports, you have one, maybe two, options for how you want to go about it. With skiing, however, you have a plethora of styles to choose from and terrain to play on. Simply put: the different ways to enjoy this winter sport are vast. Sure, the most commonly known type of skiing is going downhill on two skis. But what if you add tricks? Or a helicopter? More than 11 million Americans are active participants in alpine or cross-country skiing. IF you want to join them, you first have to figure out what kind of adventure, or exercise, you want, and choose your equipment accordingly.
Most types of skiing fall into three categories: alpine, extreme—which can include tricks or backcountry terrain—and Nordic.
