4 Drills to Improve Your Volleys

Players who have the finesse to direct their volleys cross court or down the line have the ability to end points decisively and more often than not, will end up winning the match.

The only way to perfect your technique is to practice, practice, practice. But that doesn't mean you have to take lessons.

All you need is a ball machine or a friend to feed you balls. After you've completed the drill, switch it up so your partner can get a little practice.

Forehand Volley Drill-Cross Court

Equipment: 10 tennis balls; some cones (or similar)

Divide the court up as shown in the diagram with your cones. Starting in the middle and just inside the service line (P), have a partner feed 10 balls (1 at a time) over to your forehand.

Hit the ball before it bounces. You score 3 pts for hitting the ball into area X, 2 pts for area Y and 1 pt for area Z. Enter your score into the space provided.
