Instructor: Michelle Donlick Altmeyer is the owner of Avalo Cat Sanctuary, a large nonprofit feline care facility located on her 16-acre property outside of Aiken. Born in England and raised in Canada, Michelle moved to South Carolina to continue her career as a vet tech while she taught riding in the heart of Aiken’s horse country. In 2010, she met her first Bengal cat and discovered the need for re-homing hybrid felines whose owners could no longer care for them. Today, Avalo is home to over 250 domestic cats, as well as 100 small exotics and hybrids. Description: Learn about the rescue, care, and rehabilitation of domestic, hybrid, and small exotic felines through the real-life experiences of a large cat sanctuary in Aiken County. We will discuss the types of hybrid and small exotic cats that you can legally own in South Carolina, along with the joys and challenges of housing and feeding them. Hear stories of dramatic rescues, one of which took place in Singapore, and heartwarming care for seriously ill or disabled cats who are paralyzed, blind, or living with brain disorders. We will take questions at the end of each class.
