Instructor: Robert Anzuoni graduated from Stonehill College with a B.A. (American Studies) and received an M.A. (History and Archival Methods) from UMass Boston. He served as Director of the 82nd Airborne Division Museum, Fort Bragg, NC; Director of the Signal Corps Museum at Fort Gordon, GA; and retired as staff curator at Fort Jackson, SC, with forty years of federal service. He has over twenty-eight years of experience as an adjunct history instructor, including fourteen years at USC Aiken. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division and wrote three books about that unit. He has presented seven courses on military history to the CLL. Description: This is a four-part course discussing the American Civil War. Session 1: covers westward expansion, the Mexican-American War, and how those activities led to regional tensions. Session 2: covers the increased tensions between the north and south resulting in the crises of the 1850s. Session 3: covers the outbreak of war and the campaigns up to 1862. Included will be the tactics and technology of the time. Session 4: discusses how the Civil War became an international event, the campaigns from 1863 to 1865, and its lasting impact.
