Goose Creek: Lyrids Meteor Shower Watch Party 4/23/25
Aldie Mill Historic Park • PO Box 322 John Mosby Highway Aldie, VA 22039 Organized by NOVA Parks - Northern Virginia Regional Park AuthorityAbout this event
Description
We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Join the Roving Naturalist for a late night meteor shower watch party at Goose Creek Bridge Historic Park! Each April, the earth passes through a debris field produced by comet C/1861 G1 Thatcher, causing the Lyrids Meteor Shower. As crazy as it seems, midnight is the best time to get outside and see the highest volume of meteors. Any earlier in the night, and there is not a whole lot of activity. So, get a good night's rest the night before, bring warm clothes and blankets, and learn more about this incredible galactic phenomenon that is a whole lot closer to earth than you may think!
A telescope will be set up and shared to observe planets and stars. Have a camera and tripod? Bring it along and get some tips on how to capture the meteors! $8, ages 5+
