Internet Registration has not begun yet. Check Registration Dates in details.
Adult. Using the cabinet constructed in the first class, you will add a door, using mortice and tenon joinery and a drawer, using half-blind dovetails or rabbits or dados. Depending on time and skill levels the doors will either be overlay or inset, drawers either overlay or piston-fit. The drawers will be side hung. Some machine tools will be used in the construction, along with the same hand tools used in the cabinet class.
These classes are consecutive; however, each can be taken separately. A materials fee of $30 will be due to the instructor by check or cash on the first day of class, which covers the materials and dimensioning of the lumber. This is also an advanced class. It is highly recommended that prospective students have taken the Woodworking With Hand Tools 1 and 2, OR have extensive experience with woodworking joinery with hand tools.
Taking just the Drawers and Doors class, separately, the student would come away with a drawer, using half-blind dovetails and a panel door, using mortice and tenon joinery. Questions can be directed to the instructor, rather than to the Rec & Ed staff.
Advanced students and/or those with sufficient time, will also learn to create a mortice and tenon stand, if desired. Registration for Drawers & Doors will begin on 11/7. Last day to register for Beginning Cabinet Making is 1/6. Instructor: Ken Ray. 8 classes. No class 1/24 and 2/14.
Residents in the AAPS district boundaries ages 65+ may be eligible for a 25% discount off one class per term. Registration must be completed over the phone (734) 994-2300 ext. 0, Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm. Please click on the following link for more information: Senior Adult Discount Policy
