Drawing Foundations: Observational
Instructor: Margaret Squires
This class will concentrate on creating realisticdrawings from direct observation. Students willlearn to apply fundamental drawing principlesincluding proportion, perspective, line, value, andcomposition in practice exercises and finisheddrawings. Projects will include geometric solids,drapery, and still life.

Materials List:
Paper:
- 18 X 24" White Charcoal Paper pad (Has enough tooth to hold charcoal, but smooth enough for nice contour work as well.)
- 18 X 24" Newsprint Paper pad (for practicing composition, etc.)
- Single sheet of colored Canson paper or Arches paper (I will inform students when needed later in semester.)
- Sketchbook, 8 ½ X 11" or 11 X 14" (for practice at home)
Erasers:
- Kneaded Eraser
- Pink Pearl Eraser
- Retractable Pencil-Style Eraser
- Drafting Cleaning Bags of Powdered Erasers (Great for subtle value work and cleaning up drawing.)Pencils:
- Graphite pencils (H, HB, B, 2B, 4B)
- Charcoal pencils (hard, medium, soft)General:
- Chamois cloth (Buy at AutoZone, its cheaper.)
- Portfolio case (cardboard or vinyl)
- Drawing board large enough to hold drawing pads.
- 18" or 24" Ruler
- Drafting Tape
- Piece of Sandpaper
- Blending stumps
- Vine charcoal (soft)
- 1 stick black pastel
- Spray fixative (can only use outside or at home)
- Metal clips for drawing boards
Most supplies may be purchased in-store or online at Blick/Utrecht, and many Michael's stores.
