Watercolor Landscape Monotypes

Cheltenham Center for the Arts • 439 Ashbourne Road CheltenhamPA  19012 Organized by Cheltenham Center for the Arts

About this event

Discover combining monotype printing and watercolor painting techniques to produce original landscape artworks. This hybrid approach would allow students to integrate the spontaneity and fluid nature of watercolor painting with the unique printing qualities of the monotype process, freshly and creatively capturing the essence of a landscape. Plan and sketch in pencil landscapes based on personal photos or free stock photos provided by the instructor to develop composition and value. Then, directly paint on non-absorbent, flat-surface printing matrices. The monotype prints will be made using a printing press to transfer the images from the matrices to paper. We will investigate mark-making, texturizing, and layering methods to produce distinctive effects in the watercolor monotypes. Color relationships and the use of printmaking’s unexpected effects for landscape painting within the monotype technique will be highlighted. Develop your creativity and learn how to translate scenery into expressive, one-of-a-kind watercolor landscape monotypes. Basic materials will be provided. All levels are welcome.
