Description
Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism is in need of basketball referees for the winter season. This is a seasonal position officiating games for boys and girls ages 6-10.Qualifications: - Must have familiarity with the rules of basketball and the modified rules used by Chesapeake Athletic Programs. - Must be able to communicate with Coaches to get games started promptly.- Must be able to run for extended amounts of time.- Must be able to communicate schedule conflicts with athletic staff. - Must be able to remain calm in a stressful competitive atmosphere
General Responsibilities:Referees will be expected to officiate youth games, keeping youth safe and the games under control. Referees are required to act professionally and to serve as role models for the participants. Referees are required to wear referee jerseys when working a game. You will also be required to communicate with adult coaches to ensure games start in a timely manner.
Season Information:Games are played January - early March mainly on Saturdays: 9:00am - 4:00pm. Some weeknight games are possible 6:00pm-8:00pm. All games take place at City of Chesapeake community centers.
Compensation: All Referees will be paid $30 per game. Jersey and whistle are provided
All referees must be 18 years or older. Referee's are not City of Chesapeake employees and are contracted for the season.
