Henricus Park • 251 Henricus Park Road Chester, VA 23831 Organized by Chesterfield County Parks and RecreationAbout this event
Description
We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Henricus Historical Park will host a multi-faceted historical event illuminating the creation and destruction of the first iron industry in English Virginia - the Falling Creek Ironworks of 1621. There will be living history demonstrations presenting the everyday life of ironworkers from the Virginia Company of London. Interpreters will demonstrate how various sawyers, carpenters, masons, ironworkers and blacksmiths all contributed to establishing the first iron furnace in the English New World.
Experience what life was like for the original men and women of the settlement, the skills they performed and the relationship that existed between the English and Powhatan people on the eve of March 22, 1622. On that day, native warriors led by Chief Opechancanough launched an unexpected military offensive against all the English settlements including Falling Creek Ironworks.
There will also be guided tours from Henricus Park to Falling Creek Ironworks Park where visitors will have a chance to encounter details on the original industry, learn about the archaeological evidence recovered from the site and learn about the legacy of events that occurred there in the early colonial period.
Event is free.
