Writing a novel on the history of coal mining in Midlothian, Virginia means deep research. Author Scarlett Heinbuch will discuss some of her findings: The humanity of the people who worked the mines, the impact on enslaved people, the human tragedy of mining disasters, the complex social relationships below the ground and above it and the legacy of the mines in modern day Midlothian.
