A Film Screening of "Till" A Powerful Story of Resistance and Racial Injustice

Albert L. Lorenzo Cultural Center • 44575 Garfield Road Clinton TownshipMI  48038 Organized by Macomb Community College

About this event

Directed by Chinonye Chukwu, a Nigerian-American filmmaker known for her focus on stories of social justice and the human condition. Join us for a special screening of "Till," the compelling film based on Mamie Till-Mobley’s courageous pursuit of justice for her 14-year-old son, Emmett Till. Brutally lynched in 1955 while visiting family in Mississippi, Emmett’s tragic death sparked a pivotal moment in the fight for civil rights in America. Following the film, engage in a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring a Macomb Community College professor, Matthew Cross, and two diversity officers from local community colleges, Kristina Martin (Oakland Community College) and Tracye Davis (Henry Ford College). Moderated by Macomb’s Executive Director of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access, Tiffany Goliday, the panel will explore the movie’s themes, draw parallels between past and present-day racial violence, and reflect on the ongoing struggle for racial justice.
