Folks wonder if it has already been done, but history is a wide-open field with new discoveries every day. A review of some historical claims and the research required for discovering hidden history
Session 2, Wednesday February 19, 11amThe early history of Howard County including Wast Columbia, Savage and Ellicott Mills. Who were the original inhabitants, and who were the early land patents issued to? Was Howard County ever considered to be in Baltimore County? Where was Elkridge? Which mills were earlier - Ellicott or one at Savage?
Session 3, Wednesday, February 26, 11amEarly Ellicott City and Howard County Black History (with an expert on the topic). Stories of free Balck Landowners, a public-school teacher believed to be lynched, and desegregation of schools.
Session 4, Wednesday March 5, 11amEast Columbia and Guilford Area History from Christ Church to the Guilford Mills and Quarries. Christ Church was the first social center of Howard County - what was its role? Was Guilford an actual town?
Session 5, Wednesday, March 12, 11amSavage Mill and Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Looking at the origin of Savage Mill and the B&O Patuxent Branch Railroad reaching into Columbia, the history of the B&O Washington Branch Line affecting eastern Howard County, the Savage Railroad and 2 Bollman Bridges.Presenter: Wayne DavisRoom: Classroom 2
