Description
President Lincoln and Soldier’s Home National Monument, sometimesshortened to "President Lincoln’s Cottage," is a national monument on thegrounds of the Soldier’s Home, known today as the Armed Forces RetirementHome. During the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln and his family spentthe warmer months of 1862-1864 there. He reportedly made his last visitto the house on April 13, 1865, the day before he was assassinated. He metwith political friends and enemies and discussed military strategy. Lincolnwas staying in this house when he wrote the final draft of the EmancipationProclamation in September 1862. Bring your lunch and snacks.
