About this event

Description

Class description:
Strengthen your landscape painting skills in this class with Mary Jane Ward.
Students in this class will be making studio paintings working from plein air paintings of their own, or making studies from prints of master paintings.
Working from your own previous plein air studies is an excellent way to learn more about what you are seeing and recording when you are out in nature. You may find that it helps you to be more self-directed, decisive, and observant of specific details when you are outside again, after working from your plein air studies in the studio.
Master copying is a great exercise to add into your studio practice. Master copying can help you improve in many ways: drawing, color choices, composition, subject matter, paint handling and more.
Students may use photos for research and reference, but working primarily from photos is discouraged, as this class is directed at strengthening the memory and the working knowledge of how other painters have approached different subjects in the landscape.
Instructor will give demonstrations and work alongside students in order to show in depth process and painting development. Students will work at their own pace and draw or paint in the medium of their choice.
All levels of experience welcome.
