Description
Class is designed for ages 16 & up. However, ages 10-15 will be considered with instructor approval. If you have someone ages 10-15 interested, please email Parks@CulpeperCounty.gov.What are some things that Amateur Radio operators can do?
- Talk to distant friends and relatives when your power is off and the Internet is down.
- Help in the wake of a regional or national disaster
- Speak to someone on the other side of the world
- Help your community with special events
- Operate a station in another part of the country without leaving home.
- Talk to an astronaut on the space station
- Send and Receive email using amateur radio

These are just a few of the things amateur radio operators do!! So why don't you join this unique group and become a HAM! Sure you can study on your own and take the test, but here you will get to talk with 4-6 different instructors with a combined 100+ years of Amateur Radio experience. There is no substitute for that knowledge.
The Culpeper Amateur Radio Association (CARA) in association with Culpeper County Parks and Recreation is proud to offer a 6-week course to help you earn your amateur radio Technician License.
The course will be presented at the Culpeper Field House every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 to 8 starting January 30 and finishing with you taking the license exam by March 13
Please note: You will need to spend an additional 4 hours each week for study and practice. That’s only 44 hours of your time, just 8 hours a week for 6 weeks, to launch a hobby that will last a lifetime.
There is no age limit or requirement for earning an amateur radio license. Have you considered amateur radio as a family hobby? Financial assistance is available.
