OSHA 1022 Excavations and Trenches This training covers key excavation and trenching safety topics that workers and competent persons need to know before entering a dig. According to OSHA definitions, competent persons survey a dig site, identify hazards, and have the authority to stop an excavation the job until a detected hazard is eliminated or controlled. NOTE: All students must wear safety toe footwear. No athletic or open-toe shoes will be permitted. Topics OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P Worker protection systems Role of a Competent Person Soils analysis (visual & manual) Regulations for shoring, sloping & benching Potentially hazardous atmospheres Requirements to locate and avoid underground utilities
