*This class meets the prerequisite to become a CERA pottery studio member.*
HANDBUILDING CLASS Instructor: Melinda Randall
No previous clay experience is required. The class will cover studio policies and procedures which are requirements to become a member of the studio.
You must attend all 6 classes to meet the requirements for studio membership.
Please bring your own cone 6 clay or purchase a 25# bag at the studio for $18. Tools needed: A wire cutter, kidney scraper or potters rib, small paint brush, metal needle tool and knife. A basic tool kit can also be purchased at the studio for $12.
During the six weeks, you'll learn about the studio, rolling slabs by hand, texture techniques, using the slab roller, extruder, using forms, stamping, carving and glazing your work using underglazes. Projects include: An embellished tray, toad house, bird house and tall slab jar.
IMPORTANT: Your clay creation will need to fire in the kiln and will be ready to pick up in 4 - 7 days. Please claim your work within 14 days by scheduling a time for pick up with the instructor. Pottery left on the Project Pick-Up shelf for longer than 14 days is subject to removal to make space for other students' work.
