About this event

Six IN-PERSON Sessions September 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23 It is the nature of every human being to look at the world and discern whether a thing is good or bad, right or wrong. From childhood we are taught to categorize our experiences as right or wrong, good or bad. Laws, religions, societal norms, games that we play, our relationships, the behavior of others, the people that we meet – nearly everything we do requires us to label things as good or bad, right or wrong. Doing this helps us to make sense of the world we live in. This class will be a discussion-based examination of how, and maybe why, the human mind and heart is focused on judging the world around us. This class builds on ideas examined in previous courses “Is Reality Really Real?” and “Possibilities: What We Can Imagine.” It is not necessary to have taken those courses to get full benefit from this course but we will continue to dive into how individual perception and cultural understanding knit together to make us who we are. Veteran BULLI instructor Robert Powers has a Ph.D. in biochemistry and biostatistics from the Medical University of South Carolina and Masters of Divinity (Honors) from Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He has served on the faculties of Harvard Medical School, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Yale College of Medicine, and Gwinnett Technical College. He recently retired as director of research for the College of Health Sciences and Professions at the University of North Georgia and Chaplain at Riverside Military Academy. Brandon Powers was Georgia Gwinnett College’s first double-degree student receiving a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor’s of Science in Cognitive Neuroscience. Following college he attended Emory University’s School in Law where he achieved his Master’s specializing in Legal Research. Following working in foreclosures at a large Atlanta law firm he joined Northeast Georgia Medical Center in January
