About this event
Prepare for a new career as a dental assistant by learning the essential skills you need and prepare to take the Dental Assistant National Board exams in Infection Control and Radiation, Health and Safety. The program offers theoretical knowledge, practical hands-on and clinical labs in the Cape Cod Tech Dental shop using up-to-date equipment and current techniques. Curriculum covers topics in general dental assisting, infection control in the dental office and radiology health and safety. All candidates must satisfactorily have a high school diploma or equivalent. Educational hours from the Dental Assistant Program may be used to partially satisfy the time requirements for the General Chairside exam to become a Certified Dental Assistant. Session 1: Infection Control in the Dental Office Dates: October 2020 – February 2021 (dates to be announced) Number of weeks: 14 Upon successful completion of this course students will be well prepared for the DANB/ICE exam.Topics covered include standard universal precautions and the prevention of disease transmission, Occupational safety (OSHA) standards, medical records,introduction to infectious/communicable diseases, diseases of major concern to dentistry, breaking the cycle of infection in the dental environment and CDC Guidelines for Dentistry. Session 2: Dental Radiology Dates: February 2020 – June 2021 (dates to be announced) Number of hours: 100 hours of classroom instruction and laboratory The Dental Radiology course is intended to prepare the dental assistant to take the Radiology Health and Safety Examination sponsored by the Dental Assisting National Board. If they successfully pass this exam, they are recognized as certified nationally.
