Description
One hour chess class meeting once a week. The main purpose of this class is for students to learn how to use chess as a tool to enhance their lives. They will get the opportunity to explore how playing and learning chess can help them to do the following:1. Build confidence, self esteem, and character2. Create friendships and strengthen interpersonal skills and connections3. Learn important life lessons and core values such as work ethic, determination, resilience, and integrity.4. Boost academic performance and position themselves to lead a successful and fulfilling life.
Class time will be divided roughly equally between learning chess lessons and practicing the lessons learned. Lessons will consist of the following:
1. Learning the basics and making sure everyone is prepared to begin learning more advanced concepts2. Fantastic examples from the great masters throughout chess history and our current time3. Tactics and strategy, and the interplay between them4. Calculation 5. Mastering the endgame6. Principles of opening play7. Chess then and now: How technology has revolutionized chess
