Description
The Central Carolinas Master Naturalist Program is an adult certification program designed to educate and train a corps of volunteers to provide support in the conservation, management and interpretation of natural resources and natural areas within Mecklenburg and the surrounding 13 counties (Central Carolinas). To become certified, individuals must complete the Master Naturalist Basic Training Course (72 hrs) as well as a minimum of eight (8) hours Advanced Training/Continuing Education and a minimum of 40 volunteer service hours on approved service projects within the Central Carolinas region before the end of the Basic Training Course. The Basic Training Course classes occur 1-2 times per month, except during July and August, and include a combination of classroom instruction, hands on activities, and field trips. Class location varies throughout the Charlotte Metro Area.
The CCMN Basic Training Course covers the background knowledge and skills to prepare you for service as a CCMN volunteer in the Central Carolinas program area. The classes include a wide range of topics relating to the natural sciences. Attendance is mandatory for all required classes. Classes will be held for seven (7) hours, one to two times per month from January 2025 to December 2025 with the exception of July and August 2025. Classes are taught by guest instructors that are experts on the related topic. The majority of classes are 50% classroom instruction and 50% in the field/outdoors. Those accepted into the program must commit to attending all classes. During the year of the Basic Training Course, participants must conduct a minimum of 40 volunteer service hours and complete eight (8) hours advanced training. All three components must be completed to become certified.
