Birds of prey fascinate folks. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and functions in creation. This presentation will host Al Parker who will talk about some of his life work with hawks, owls, and eagles and especially the reintroduction and recovery of the eagles in the Hoosier state. Get to know your winged and taloned neighbors by taking a look into their lives.
Al will have some copies of his book, “A Hope for Wings – Musings of a Raptor Hacker and Tales of Bird of Prey Recovery” available at the event ($15, cash or check only).
Al Parker graduated from Pike High School and spent many of his formative days wandering the newly created Eagle Creek Park. Al worked for the Indiana Division of Fish and Wildife for 20 years as a raptor technician. He worked on re-introduction projects for Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons and did other work with Barn Owls and Woodland Raptors. After moving to Ohio where he worked at The Wilds, he had the opportunity to re-introduce Osprey as well. He has been a practicing falconer since he was 15 years old. He currently teaches as a Professor of Wildlife Conservation at Zane State College and runs a summer river camp program with his wife, Amy, called Canoe Creation.
Free with park admission ($6/vehicle Marion County resident, $7/vehicle out of county), no registration required.
