Performing Arts | Belly Dancing with Props | B Ripple

Broad Ripple Park • 1550 Broad Ripple Avenue IndianapolisIN  46220 Organized by Indianapolis Parks & Recreation Department

About this event

Description

Throughout the Middle East, Mediterranean, and North Africa, it is common for belly dancers to utilize a variety of props in their performances. Veils, swords, and baskets wow audiences as dancers display their balance, spatial awareness, prowess, and artistry.
This class will introduce dancers to at least two props, likely skirts and flamenco fans. Please be sure to sign up for the class one week in advance, so the instructor can try to bring enough props for everyone to try out. Skirts should be 25-yard skirts or similar; when worn at the hip, they should fall almost to the floor, and the wearer can pick up the edges of the skirt to swirl it around without pulling at the skirt (there should be enough fabric so that it is quite voluminous). Fans should be 12-13" long, made of wood and paper, and able to snap open and closed.
Experience with FCBD style dancing is a plus, but anyone can come to this class and learn how to handle the selected props.
Jeana Jorgensen is a certified teacher of Fat Chance Belly Dance, meaning that she has completed the General Skills and Teacher Training workshops and is thus proficient in FCBD Style/ATS. Jeana has been belly dancing since 1998, and she has been practicing ATS since 2002. She directs the troupe Indy Swords & Shimmies (formerly Indy Tribal), the premier ATS troupe in the Indianapolis area, as well as the student troupe Mandali.
No discounts. Please sign up one week in advance.
