Overview: This course begins with a review of framing concepts and skills: dimensional lumber, on center spacing, measuring and marking, and cutting with a circular saw. We will quickly dive into the more advanced skills necessary for framing a roof: understanding rise and run, the difference between a plumb cut and a level cut, how to layout a rafter taking into account the thickness of the ridge. In this class we will cut and install the relatively simple rafters for the monoslope roof of the tiny house, but we will also take time to cut rafters for a mock-up of a gable roof so students get practical experience with a more complex roof form. Project description: In this class we will frame the monoslope (shed) roof for the tiny house project. We will also work on a gable roof mock-up. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission.
