Establishing and Maintaining Political, Social and Economic Power

Kamloops Sports Council Clubhouse • 1550 Island Parkway Dr. KamloopsBCCanada  V2B 0H7 Organized by Kamloops Adult Learners Society

About this event

In my previous class, KALS participants discussed both the political spectrum and economic spectrum. Both of these classes heavily focused on political and economic theory. As an extension of these two classes, our October class be significantly different! It will involve your participation in an experiential learning activity. Through this experiential activity, participants will gain an understanding of the seductive – and destructive – influence of power. Specifically, KALS participants will • Understand the effect that systems can have on power; • Be aware of how tempting it is for well-intentioned people to abuse power; • Understand that there are different kinds of power; • Personally experience and discuss the excitement of power and the despair of powerlessness. The class, approximately 2.5 hours in length, will include • 15 minute introduction to the simulation; • 1.5 hours participating in the simulation; • 30 minute debrief and discussion. A maximum of 45 KALS members are able to participate in this class. Additional attendees will serve as “Official UN Observers.” Paul's two previous classes on the economic and political spectrum are not prerequisite.
