Burrowing owls were once a common sight in southern BC, but almost disappeared due to the loss of habitat for nesting and foraging. Since 2014, the Upper Nicola Band has been working on a stewardship program to reintroduce this charismatic owl back into the grasslands of the Nicola Valley. Learn more about this conservation project with all its joys and tribulations from the individuals who monitor and take care of the Burrowing Owl sites and their occupants. Participants will be provided a hands-on experience of performing a pellet analysis to determine the diet of the Burrowing Owl.
