This class will introduce linocut printmaking, by carving linoleum blocks to use with the American French Tool Press. Through three projects, students can expand their printmaking skills with line, shape, patterns, form, and more. Students will first build compositions through “state proofs”, then integrate layering color blocks. Finally, students will create a multicolor print with a single block - through the White Line printing style, developed through historic techniques from Japanese Edo woodcuts through 20th century Provincetown printers. All experience levels are welcome. The printmaking studio utilizes non-toxic materials; all students are asked to review the 2024-25 printmaking studio guidelines (provided upon registration) ahead of their first class in the space.
