Bring your Girl Scout along as you join us for an engaging skills session designed for adult troop volunteers eager to enhance their outdoor cooking and rustic camping abilities. This session serves as a practical complement to the required gsLearn online course Outdoor Cooking & Rustic Camping, focusing on hands-on practice and experiential learning. Stay for an optional overnight until 8:00 AM the next day to round out your training experience with your Girl Scout tag along by your side. What You Will Learn: Edible Fires and Firewood: Gain confidence in teaching edible fires and sorting various types of firewood essential for outdoor cooking. Learn techniques for starting and maintaining fires specifically for stick cooking. Teaching Tips and Involving Campers: Acquire practical tips and tricks for teaching outdoor cooking and engaging campers in the process, enhancing their outdoor skills through interactive progressions. Camp Stove Setup and Operation: Master the setup and lighting of camp stoves, ensuring proficiency in using alternative cooking methods beyond traditional fires. Useful Knots for Camping: Learn essential knots relevant to outdoor activities, ensuring safety and efficiency in various camping scenarios. Cooking Over an Open Fire: Practice cooking a meal over an open fire and using charcoal, exploring different techniques and recipes suitable for outdoor settings. Sanitation Practices: Review proper techniques for washing dishes in wilderness environments, ensuring sanitation and hygiene for all campers. This session is tailored for adult troop volunteers with a related Girl Scout youth preparing to lead camping trips in platform tents, cabins, yurts, or similar settings, aiming to go beyond basic outdoor cooking skills. New This Year: Family Involvement Option: For added enjoyment, volunteers are encouraged to bring their Girl Scout along. Share in the fun and stay for an optional overnight in a lodge with other families from the training.
