Enjoy sewing? (Or think you might?) Campers will learn about fashions from the 1820s and 1830s and the importance of hand sewing in the life of people, particularly women, of that time. A tour of the house will introduce the many examples of hand sewing in the Travellers Rest collection. Beginners will learn both basic sewing stitches and decorative embroidery stitches; they will have the opportunity to make a needle book, pin cushions and reticules (drawstring bags). Advanced stitching campers will have the opportunity to design their own samplers, make a rag doll or sewing kit. Choose either Advanced or Beginner based on your experience with Stitching History Camp. Campers who have attended one session of Stitching History Camp in the past may register for "Advanced", first year Stitching History campers should register for "Beginner".
