Description: This 6-week course explores the philosophical and psychological aspects of art appreciation and interpretation, drawing on the principles from Alain de Botton’s "Art as Therapy" and John Berger’s "Ways of Seeing." Additionally, it incorporates fundamental drawing and painting techniques, allowing students to experience firsthand the therapeutic and perceptual aspects of creating art. Prerequisites: • Although having a basic understanding of art history and appreciation would benefit the prospective student, it is not a strict requirement. This course focuses on how we view art (and its history) in order to enhance one’s appreciation of the arts. • Previous experience in creating art (drawing, painting, etc.) is helpful but not required. • An interest in the psychological and philosophical aspects of art is recommended.
