Whatever your understanding of what yoga is know that you are doing something good for you! In only a few weeks you will start to feel that you are building strength, mobility, flexibility, awareness and harmony in both mind and body. The Iyengar method and practice can have a hugely positive influence on your health and well being helping you deal with the many mental and physical demands we can experience in every day life. It involves performing yoga postures (asanas) with an emphasis on safety, detail, precision and bodily alignment. This style of yoga uses supports (props) that make the asanas accessible to all, regardless of physical limitations, ability or fitness levels. In this beginner class you can expect clear demonstration and explanation by a thoroughly trained and certified Iyengar instructor, a safe methodical progression of foundational poses, individual correction and adjustment with active help when necessary. - Mats and props are provided. - Wear comfortable clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts or tights. - Try not to eat anything just before class - Hydrate before class as drinking water during class is not advised - Bare feet please. From a physical perspective, practicing yoga barefoot gives you the feeling of stability and connectivity of your body to the ground/floor/mat. This will help you in standing positions to maintain alignment making sure you are activating the right muscles.
