Prerequisites: completion of Christian Morality; incoming 12th Grader. This course equips students to become more intelligent consumers of media. As they practice critiquing various news sources for accuracy, relevancy, truthfulness and ethical values, they will learn how to uncover the bigger societal issues that drive our news stories. Media has become one of the most potent communicators of self-definition, information, and values in our society. This course explores media’s presence and potency in American culture and analyzes media methods and values from the standpoint of the Gospel and Christian faith. Since media permeates every aspect of our lives, it warrants an intelligent and critical response to the way it challenges us to define ourselves, our values, and our faith in the modern world. Multiple forms of media will be examined from historical, sociological, and ethical perspectives.
